Hi,

We are new to the forum but have had our mini for 31 years. She is now having a complete overhaul and hoping to get back on the road soon. Does anyone know of any good machine shops in the South Wales or South West area? We are in Newport, not far from Cardiff.

Our little FLAME is beautiful, I know she is only a standard 998 but you don't seem to see many around. Any flame owners out there? Racing Green or Check Mate too? We are now aiming to get her back as original as we can. She did have wheel trims which we wont ever be able to get again so she has got white mini lights but apart from that we are going the whole hog....... here is a pic of FWOG.....

Welcome aboard, The wheel trims do come up on Ebay from time to time, if you did want to go back to steel wheels with wheel trims, you just have to be patient or someone on here might have a set they don't want. Good luck with the project

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum. Like you I am keeping my Daughter's 1988 Designer Mini as close to factory original as possible. If the parts number for the wheel trims you are after is NAM6582 the full cover trim then there are some on Ebay. The centre insert piece NAM6583 are more difficult to get hold of but  I got both parts from a company in Holland about a 2 years ago. They had quite a few of both. Their email address is [email protected]. If you do contact them and they have them in stock make sure to get them to check that the centre insert fits with the main body as some inserts are different but seem to have the same part number(most odd). They do need to be spayed the correct colour for the particular Mini variant.

Wheel trims you are after = DTB10014NMN (White)

According to Somerford you can fit DTB10057 (same 9 half moon cut-outs design but from other models).

Unless you are prepared to wait for.... ????   you should consider buying DTB10057MNE (Silver Mist) or DTB10057MNH (Silver Sparkle) & spray them White.

That's brilliant thanks for that info. everyone, I will track them down somewhere!

By the way "sonscar" do you know that there were 2 runs of mini flame/racing green/checkmates. The first had the trims, the second had the alloy wheels. So your alloys may be original. Our car is the first batch and it was us who changed to alloys, so it is our own fault. It was about 20 years ago though.

'sonscar' is a F reg so it's definitely an original Mini Racing & not the 1990 Mini Racing Green revival model.

Any idea if anything (apart from the wheels) was different on the 1990 version???

The 1990 version got a 3.44 Final Drive, do you know if yours has a 3.1 Diff?

EDIT: Info on 1990 version from Roblightbody.com "....alloy wheels (instead of white wheelcovers), black trim (instead of grey), and a lowered final drive ratio the 2nd generation of the "Flame Red" and "Racing Green...."

I have a mostly original Racing Green, however it got a 1275 at some point in its life.
