I need a new bonnet for my 84 as the current one is rusty, split and needs replacing. It doesn’t have the grille lip and I’d like the new one to be in the same style. I’m not too fussed if it’s steel or fibreglass but I’d like one that will fit without too much fettling. Any recommendations for suppliers?

Thanks.

Buy a Heritage one from Minispares with your 7.5% TMF+ discount, then carefully remove the lip.

Or you buy a decent second hand original steel bonnet and do the same again. Beware of pattern bonnets as these tend to be basically rubbish.

Minispares also has the bonnet for van's, no lip on those. 😉

Just to back up my previous reasoning for using either Heritage or a good quality second hand one. If you have time to read it have a look at what i had to do for my sons car Project Erm with regards to a pattern bonnet. Bloody rubbish.

Dont be put off with anything with a lip, it takes literally minutes to remove the spot welds that attach it to the bonnet. So if you can find a really good condition second hand one with a lip you will be onto a winner as they are way cheaper than buying a new Heritage item.

Thanks for that, I found the bonnet issues had (eventually!), I’ll definitely be going for a Heritage panel or a good s/h one.
