Hi,

Just put my intake manifold back on and appear to have made some sort of mini-amateur error, as I have now a healthy air leak on one side of the intake manifold to head joint. Everything looked lined up and as it should be,  all torqued up normally.  What do I need to be looking out for when I re-do this?  Thanks in advance.

are the flanges on the exhaust and intake manifolds the same thickness ?  thicker exhaust flange will mean the intake is loose

Exhaust and intake are standard SPI items,  so don't expect thickness to be the issue /  Nothing obvious trapped.  Maybe I didn't line up the tubular insert between them correctly...

I would ask if the faces were all clean when you put it all together..

I think i would, order another exhaust gasket, then carefully take the old one off and examine it see where the issue was and clean all flange faces and spend the time to make sure you are happy with all before progressing..

The leak may not be where you think it is.. could be a crack in the inlet or a leak at any servo take off...

Investigate propa see what you find...

Well after strip down,  said ring was not there.  Found it between the head and the exhaust manifold. Also the face of the inlet is pretty messed up.

Thanks folks.

You can actually see where the ring was not seated properly at some point and left its mark on the inlet.
