Ac Dodd Rs Cam, Or Minispares Evo1

I’ve been trawling through a number of chats and forums trying to find a response to the above, but haven’t yet been able to find one!
I’m torn between the ‘AC Dodd RS’ camshaft, or the ‘Minispares Evolution 001’.
Both have really good reviews, and given the AC Dodd cam is double the price, I wanted to check if people thought it was worth it? Engine is currently out already, so now is the perfect time to change cams before I rebuild it.
Current engine set up is:
- ported and polished 12g940 head
- standard 1275 block
- larger valves
- HIF44 carb
- standard rockers (seen mixed reviews about changing these to hi lift)
- Stage 1 exhaust kit (1.75 bore)
- Ultralight flywheel
I’m looking to get maximum acceleration and torque out of it, but without upgrading to 1310 etc.
This will be a Sunday driver and the odd Mini show.l, so not a daily drive.
Thanks in advance for your help :)

Thanks for this mate. Are the specs/lift timings etc similar between the cams please?
Fully appreciate the cost element, and more than happy to pay the extra cost if it means I can squeeze a few extra HP out.
I’ve looked at the table you have for your cams and tried comparing to the Evo1 numbers, but being honest it all goes over my head! Haha
Cheers

Here is a graph of a 1380 injected engine using the RS cam and only 1.3:1 rockers, if you want broad power band, they don’t come much wider than this, no where is this engine below 70lbft of torque and remember factory smooth idle

That purple torque curve looks as though it is crying out to be supercharged.

The Evo1 is a dual pattern cam similar to the MG Metro profile but with more lift added. My RS is a single pattern profile using even more lift but with less duration and overlap.

Looking at the spec sheet it seems to be close to the Kent 246. Personally I'm looking for a cam for a 1098 +20 with flat top pistons and a NOS 12G295 standard head

Have a look at Keith Calver website on small bore engines. I've built a 1098 +0.100" to Keith's recommendations using a Piper BP255.

Minispares state the Evolution001 to be ground from a blank.
The evo1 is on a used cam which has been Reprofiled to the new cam specs. My own cam is a brand New Cross drilled steel billet item…

Billets as they cost more than they are selling the cam
For, more likely they are using new original cams, which are reprofiled. I will enquire.
