Hey all,

Not sure that is the right wording but wondering your throughs this. I installed a DSN timing over and have the entire cooling system apart. Was wondering about the fans location, in relation to the rad and the shroud around it. My 94 SPi originally had 2, 4mm (Rover) spacers between the pulley and the fan but I bought a single, 11mm alloy spacer from DSN. I know the spacers were original placed there to ensure there was enough clearance between the fan and the timing cover breather that is on the A+ motors BUT does it make sense that you would want the fan to be tucked under as much of the fans shroud as possible? Getting the fan as close to the rad as it can? I would think it would "contain" more of the air and transfer it through the fin.

Anyone have a theory on this one?

Not tucked right in.

and not too far out.

the shroud has a funnel shape. The center of the blades needs to be on the flatter section.

the 8mm should be right. The 12mm should be too far. As that was originally for the clubman fronted cars that had the rad mounted further away from the engine.

Thanks for the info. I am going to have a look tonight and see exactly where it sits within the shroud.

Soooo, my fan is currently flush with the shroud with the 11mm DSN spacer. You would think that would correct as it protects the blades from anything that happens to get into the engine bay...and save some fingers. I have had a crushed soda can somehow fly up into my fan once. It was REALLY scary as it sounded like my motor had just let go!! Took me a minute to figure it out and boy, was it a relief.

I will likely be pulling this all apart again as I notices a slight leak from the crank seal. SO ANNOYING! I want there to be ZERO leaks on this car. It was there once and the DSN timing setup is awesome. Zero leaks from it.

Might be in too far. It is the tips of the FA that do the work but they need to be in the shroud not in the open space between it and the rad.

I'll have to check the other end. I was looking at the engine side of things. I will confirm what it looks like on the rad side.
