Hi All

I joined the forum in mid Jan this year and had a pleasant welcome off several members, thanks.

I have two minis, one is a 1000 in russet brown which was purchased new by my parents in August 1979.

I bought it off them some years later when they switched to a metro. Ran this mini for several years until the rust caught up with it.

I did a fair bit of work on it, including welding repairs and some paint, new rear subframe and cleaned up a lot of the suspension parts.

This then, I 'me afraid, stalled as I was refurbishing the house and this took over so the mini has been sat covered up (outside some of the time) on a dolly I made to shift it.

I also have a 1980 1275 Gt mini in black which came along when the 1000 was off the road. Great fun to drive, I used it for work for quite some time but then it started to rust and this was retired from the road and has been sat, covered up at the back off the shed (outside) ever since.

Now I have more time I am preparing to finish both of them before I die.

I want to return the 1000 to as near to its original condition as possible.

The Gt, I had thought to do it up and give it some mods but since reading posts on this site , I am inclined to do this up to original specification, if I can get the parts.

What do other member think ???

On my original "introduce yourself" post, 17th Jan "Returning to minis" members asked for some photos.

Well, I have some of both machines BUT our broadband is SO BAD that I can't upload anything at the moment. Fibre is on its way but probably not for several months yet so I will have to wait till then.

Regards All

Good day Steve…. How exciting, especially given your parents owned them!! Whether you mod the GT or restore to originality, that is all personal preference. Assuming you plan to keep both minis long term, I would consider keeping the 1000 all original, but having fun with other modifications on the GT. Since neither are a Mk1, you should be able to find all parts that suit your interests. I’m in a similar situation. If I can help in any small way, please contact me. All the best!!!

Thanks for the reply Waco.

I went to the Mini Fair at Stafford this year and was pleasantly surprised to see just how much "stuff" is available for all models of mini.

The GT has a black interior which should be no problem except that the seat facings are in cloth but light grey base colour with dark grey and black vertical stripe down the centre.

As I said, I can't upload pictures but as soon as I can, someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Will start to contact the seat specialists and see if they can help.

Also, thanks for the offer of help.

Regards

Steve, reach out to Mercia Minis on Facebook or on their web page. There are members up your end of the county. They meet in Malvern. And there are people with sheds full of spares and heads full of info. Next club meet is Monday next.

Thanks for the info Nicklouse, I've saved their webpage on the computer and will try to get there on Monday.  It's only a few miles from me.
