So i'm aware that Minis have always used the V-belt type of fan belt. It's certainly what my engine uses. But since I have it out of the car, I was thinking of changing it to the multi-ribbed type of fan belt instead.

It's a somewhat popular upgrade amongst enthusiats since they are much less prone to slippage when using aircond and larger alternators. I've always been fighting belt squeal whenever I have the AC on...

Thoughts?

MPI minis used multi rib belts. You’d need the crank pulley, water pump and alternator

There’s also a conversion kit here I found today

The later MPi had multi ribbed belts so parts are available but the issue you will have is belt length.

true. since the engine is out, changing the pulleys isn't an issue.

The question is, would it be worth it?

The issue will be belt length as you are not doing a standard Mini set up with ribbed belt. You will have to buy the bits. Then work out what length belt you need. Then see if there is anything available. If not you might then need to add a tensioner. Luckily there was one fitted to the MPi that may work but you may have to make your own tensioner as the MPi ones are not that easy to find.

Isn't the MPi tensioner still available through MiniSpares?
