Can anyone tell me what years the original Mk1 850s ran with the pull cord to open the doors. We never had that in Aust. Thanks

I believe most1959-1969 Basic/Deluxe Mk1/2 Minis including Van & Pickup had the cable pull except the Super, Super-Deluxe?, Cooper and Cooper S models............which had the chrome levers.

The 'Door Pull Cable/Strings' are all part of the unique character of early Mini's..............although I always used to convert to the aftermarket chrome metal tubular handles with a wood effect knob on the end as they did not snap like the BMC chrome metal levers. The advantage of the 'pull cords' was they are in the right place 'ergonomically to hand' and you don't have to twist round to find them like the levers...............disadvantages are when they break below!

Some info below from Minispares below which may also help.

DOOR PULL CABLE ALTERNATIVE TO GLZ119 FOR MK1/2

"Although most early cars with sliding windows have metal interior handles this is the original cable type. Originally deleted for the GLZ119 handle because of frequent breakage and safety reasons it has been made available again for the purists. Never fitted to the Mini Super 850cc. Sold singly per door.
Owners were often left with a broken cable in their hands and the door being blown open as far as the check strap would allow often catching passers by and cyclists,or other vehicles causing damage to all."
