The other cause I found these jam, is some of the after market Jets have too short a hose on them. When the Choke is pulled on and the Jet is at full extension, the hose being just that wee bit short pulls the Jet over and jams them in the full extension position.
That is very interesting that is exactly what is happening. A few years back I had the carb refurbished by a local garage. They did not replace the two springs but recently I noticed they were looking a bit worn so decide to replace them myself. The image below shows what the bottom of the jet looked like before on the left and afterwards on the right. I have only had this problem since I renewed the springs and I also had a very rich mixture. I can only assume that the garage did it this way (on the left) to allow for a shorter hose on I assume an after market jet. By me putting the linkage in the correct position I altered the mixture without realising it and caused the sideways intermittent jamming in the process.
The car goes for its MOT on Tuesday so as it is now running I will leave well alone and sort it out when hopefully she passes. I have weakened the mixture but have told the garage they will need to adjust it in order to pass the MOT.
