Greetings everyone !

I am writing from the Algarve (south Portugal). Converting a garage inhabited by a mini Moke, I offered the client to park it in my garage for the time being (with all intentions to fiddle with it !)

I believe it's an Australian with 1098cc engine. The car hasn't run since 2006, date of its last MOT.

It started with removing the barrel to get a key made as it was nowhere to be seen. Easy !

I then removed and drained the fuel tank that was full of rust. Cleaned with acid and now looking a lot better. Renewed fuel lines from the tank to the carb and fuel pump (which happened to be leaking - replacement waiting to be fitted once the engine starts)

Subsequently I turned my attention to the ignition hopping to be as lucky as Mike Brewer when he bought a stalled mini on wheeler dealers : new battery, HT leads and plugs. No spark...

New dizzy condenser, point, rotor arm,  and ignition coil...still no spark.

I have looked at countless forums and videos and now think that the problem might be with some wires to the coil. On the -, i have a green one going to the dizzy and a blue that disappears in the loom on the same spade connector.

With ignition on, I am getting a weaker 12.3V on the + side than I get on the starter solenoid (12.5v). But when the point is open, I am getting 1.5v between coil´s - and ground where has I have read I should also get 12 V but is it when ignition on or when the engine is turning over ?

I am thinking to eliminate the blue wire form the coil´s - and just run a wire straight to the dizzy to rule out bad wiring on the loom....

She isn't willing to come out of hibernation easily !!!

Kindest regards

Hugo

PS: wanted to upload an image of the cuttie with means of a google drive link but it's rejected. Cannot figure how to attach images :-(

Be it the good vibes from registering to this group or relentless investigation, I finally managed to get the engine to roar after 16 years in hibernation.

Runs like a charm....but there ´s so much more to do !!!

Well, all my troubles trying to start this car were down to this switch.

Basically, besides the wire going from the coil´s - to the dizzy, there was a a blue wire on the coil´s - running into the dash.

Started after i removed the blue wire so i went tracing it.

It is connected to this switch hidden behind the binnacle which, essentially is 1978 antitheft device. Flick the switch and it drains the coil to ground preventing engine start.

Had i known, the car would likely have started without need to replace coil, point, condenser, rotor arm....At least it's all new and good for a few years.

Damm wire !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
