I'm in the process of refreshing the appearance of this Metro engine.

The block is going to be a nice red but i can't decide if I should do the rocker cover, breathers, radiator shroud satin or gloss black

I was going to go gloss but then thought that can look 'overdone' and as standard they would be satin. So I bought a can of satin and now I'm thinking gloss would a bit more smart and reflect the effort I had put in restoring it

Hmm I don't know 😏

If you can clean it easily (e.g rocker cover), then gloss black would be ok. If it's harder to clean, then satin black might be a better choice

Yeah I'm thinking gloss on the rocker and satin on the other parts

I think that would look right

I think if you are trying to get a factory look it would have all been fairly satin apart from the rocker cover which might have had a bit more gloss to it. Basically the parts were just blown over at the factory with little in the way of preparation and painted direct to metal without any primer etc..

I'm going with a matt finish, something like this:

It is more expensive than BMC green, but a chrome rocker cover catches the eye as the bonnet is opened.

Wrinkle black looks good. I plan on making a spare rocker cover wrinkle black as well.
