Mini Trans 22G1128 Is It Worth Keeping

I have recently purchased a mini van and with it comes some spare parts like this transmission.  It has been sitting in a garage for 40 plus years.  I would have to pay to have it shipped to me and don't know if it is worth the expense.  Ang advise is appreciated

If it's the same type of gearbox that's fitted to your van then it might be worth keeping for spares. NOTE: That particular box you have there is not actually a mini one, it's an Austin 1300 type where the remote shifter bolts to the box via a sandwich plate. Mini ones bolted to the box directly. Having said that, I think the Innocenti minis might have used a sandwich plate but I'm not 100% certain.
The 22g1128 4 syncro remote gearbox is my box of choice. It was fitted between 1967 and late 1972 to minis and Austin 1300's.
In good condition I think it has the nicest gear change of all the shifter types, in poor condition it's a bit of a lucky dip gear change.
The remote shifter holds the engine rock solid, no need for any additional engine steadies.
The box can easily be modified to run the later supposedly superior mainshaft and layshaft if required.

That isn't originally from a Mini, as it has the "sandwich" plate where the remote shifter bolts up to it. If you have the correct sandwich type remote, it can be fitted to a Mini, but it's hard to tell whether it's in usable condition from the photos. What year is the van you've bought? That'll also determine whether this gearbox is age appropriate for your car - after 1973 they went to a rod change shifter with a different floorpan to suit, and you might find your car has different driveshaft outputs (the box in the picture has crucifix rubber coupling joints, later cars were fitted with "pot" joints).

I did not want to leave it behind without any idea it was useful. The unit is part of a lot of mini parts from the estate of the previous owner that are being sent to me.   I will most probably not pay for it to be shipped as the cost would be around $100.00 USD just to ship it to my garage.

Have you considered the cost of a rebuild transmission?  If you want a spare,  I'd spend the additional $, have it sent over and have it rebuilt-there's a really good mini mechanic near Seattle in Graham.  Go on the SAMOA website for more information.
