Is there a lot involved in moving from the single indicator and separate windscreen wash to the twin indicator and wash wipe setup?

Is it easier to get a new loom?

I can look though the electrical diagrams for both but i was wondering if anyone on here had gone through the process?

I converted my 75, 1275gt from 1 stalk to 2 and didn’t need a new loom. the wiring is pretty simple using both wiring diagrams and my steering column inner and outer had to be changed to a 76 on one as the twins stalk plastic shroud is needed and a new ignition barrel steering lock. It was the first thing I did on it and as far as cars are concerned I was a complete novice and as said it was simple.

Like Chris1275GT above I swapped for a complete later column assembly and just altered the wiring and connectors to suit the later setup.

This old magazine article below from Popular Motoring magazine in 1979 may also be of interest depending on the year of your Mini.

(Note: There is a demand for the now rare early type steering lock columns as shown in this article, so probably best to sell it on for a good price, rather than modify as shown and buy a later column or keep the old one in case you ever wanted to convert back for originalty purposes!)

Did you have to change the steering rack as well? Or are the connections from all steering columns to racks the same for all year minis?

Thinking of doing this myself to get wiper functionality on the steering column and also want to fit a quick release steering wheel so thought might as well while I’ve got it all apart.

Steering rack doesn’t need changing.

The Clamp on the Columns are different sizes too, so be sure when getting a column, it has the clamp with it, or be sure to get the right one.

On some models, you may also need to change the bracket where it bolts up under the dash / crashpad.

Maybe the Aus cars are different but I just switched out the single for a double. No column changes etc, but wiring changes of course.
