Cooper S conversion newly fitted, now for a service of the engine.
Workshop manual quotes, 10W/30. My local Halfords doesn't stock any of this grade, what are the alternatives?

1001 threads on this. Simply, if it’s a manual, 20w50. Nothing else, Rover standardised oil on the range of cars in the later years, 20w50 is what a manual A series needs.

10W/30 oil caused gearbox and other wear related problems on the later MPi Minis....as said above use a 20W/50 oil suitable for classic Minis with combined engine/gearbox oil (ie. it has a gearbox additive)

Apologies I was focused on the 'alternative to buying from halfords' and missed an important fact obviously

Millers CTV oil 20w50

Shop around as prices vary. Used this for the past +10years in my mpi

Millers Oils Motorsport CTV Mini 20W-50 is a competition semi synthetic NANODRIVE transverse engine oil of extra high performance developed for engines which have their transmission in the sump such as the original Mini.
Specifically formulated for competition Minis and any application where the engine and gearbox share the same oil, and especially suitable where a limited slip differential is used.
