Hi,

I have a 1982 HLE 1000 and have fitted a 1275 and HIF 44 from a Metro. I have fitted the carb onto a Fletcher Aluminium Manifold and now need to identify what other parts I need, such as which throttle cable do I need, there are a few to choose from.

This one for RHD Carb models, but 1990 onwards (I guess due to the HIF 44).

And this one for when you fit a Metro Carb and linkage (not sure if I have that?

Here's the carb before I realised I needed to fit the car the the manifold before fitting the manifold to the cylinder head.

Does the new cable come with the plastic insert that fits in the recess in the abutment plate? I can see that the cable secures in the brass fitting on the throttle linkage.

How does the Choke Cable fit?

How does it fit to the accelerator pedal end?

That looks like the Metro set up with the plastic do dah on the cable that fixes in the the U shape cut out on the plate that also has the thread for the air filter tube nut. It can cause clearance issues on Mini manifolds & different cable pull can leave a Mini pedal short of the floor, with less travel from idle to full throttle.

You'll want the 90 on cable for the brass bit at the pedal end

The cable goes through the slot in the pedal & the nipple seats in round hole. There should be a spring clip round the pedal shaft that slides over to stop the cable falling out. NAM6923

Choke will need an AUE34 to fix the cable to the choke lever and a CZK6491 to clip the outer cable next to the throttle cable using the long slot in the same bracket.

I can't see a gasket between the abutment plate & the carb - just being sure you know you need one, Also have a test assembly to be sure that abutment spacer is thick enough for clearance.

So does the Mini have a different abutment plate?

This one?

What are the clearance issues? I have found it very difficult to get at the nuts holding the manifold to the head, as the lower part of the abutment plate is in the way.

I've got the NAM6923 (at least I saw it the other day and could not remember what it was for :-) )

In a pic later in this thread, Iv'e used a Vac Take Off and another nylon spacer (I also have an aluminium one if thats better). I now have four gaskets, one between each layer.

Those studs look too long for the thin black plastic spacer you have on the manifold.  I think the metro had a thicker spacer, possibly aluminium.

These studs are about 2" but they are the wrong ones as the shoulders are too long.

The small spacer is a Vac tack off and is about 7mm thick, I have two large spacers, an aluminium one and a nylon one, both from Metros I salvaged I believe.

I have added the large nylon one and together the small and large are 20mm thick.

To prevent the Carb fouling on the bulkhead I have extended the upper engine steady to about 180mm between centres.

Dunno if they came up with a new plate for Hif equipped Minis to be honest. I doubt it, if the carb levers are the same, the cable locations would likely be too. The main issue I'm thinking of is the space between the carb & manifold. But it all knocks on to bulkhead clearance, if that wasn't an issue you could just add abutment spacers. You've avoided the knock on of the knock on - tilting the engine more causes the standard air filter to hit the screen scuttle.

I think you'll just have to tinker at it until you get enough space.
