Hello you guys and gals!

Ok, just thought id start a little post on my car. My little toy was brought about 2 or 3 months ago and looked like this

Posted Image

His name is Charlie and has been my most desirable car since i was 16  I finally found him hehe

OK, but then, i decided he is to slow and i want to change him slightly. So im going for a roadster makeover on the body and a metty tubby engie :w00t:

So far:

Ive taken the roof off and gutted the interior. Next step is engine out which should be sorted by Thursday evening and is up for grabs in the for sale section ;D

Im not having any doors on this car and no rear seats. ive managed to get hold of a mini roof which will cover where the back seats are meant to go. Ive also got the Astra digi dash board and some BMW mini front seats (as you can see in the pic :ermm: )

After the engine is out its time to start making over the body. theres absolutely nothing wrong with this car, its completely solid all the way round so its a good base to start from

Once the subframe is out its off to the powder coaters with some other odds and sods.

Colour im going for will be black with a purple flip on the outside then purple cage, dash and other finishing bits. Might sound nasty but i can just see the colour in my head at the moment :dontgetit:

Im off on an airbrushing course this weekend which should help me a lot. Im very artistic anyway and have some crazy ideas so this should come in handy when doing this project ^_^

Soooo.....once engine is out, ill start on the body and post more pics on how i getton - im soooooooooooooooo excited :gimme: Looks a bit worse for wear at the min but its in good hands as im quite technical minded for a bird and my partner is a qualified technician and fabricator - so lets get going :w00t:

OK, been tinkering with Charlie over Christmas and have managed to remove the entire roof and engine. Its all lined up now and nearly ready to go to a mate of mine to have all the shell strengthened :gimme: Im taking my time with this one as i want it SPOT ON and perfect. Im hoping it will be my own little investment :gimme:

The BMW rear lights are balanced in at the min. The left one is 1/2 inch lower than the right one lol so ive got to sort that out this week - DOH!!!

Need to get me flush bootlid so i can line everything up etc Also need to sort me a dash before i fit me seats in. Not able to fix anything down at the min as i want the shell reinforced as obviously, ive taken all the strength by taking the roof out :w00t:

Cool, thanks guys :gimme: Im still stinking with the black with purple flip paint. The lights will be the same colour. Ive got me carbon bonnet and i was going to get the flush boot lid. Id like you guys opinion please:

Do you think i should get a flushed rear bootlid - normal
OR
Flushed boot lid in CARBON (to match the bonnet) ?

Im in 2 minds, i dont know :gimme:

Also, you know you get them hoops which go over the front seats, im going to put them in and weld them to the floor, so in the event of an accident (heaven for bid) (not that id survive in this anyway lol) (oh, and cause they look ace ;-) ) im going to have them polished black rather than chrome or polished stainless. I want it as a sleeper :w00t: what you think?

i think that the flushed normal boot would look better than the carbon, a lot more subtle and sleek. i also think that the hoops would look great in polished black. looking forward to seeing this project complete.

Wow, only just come across this one! Looks fantastic.....i take it you weren't too impressed with the look of the keiths convertible job on your mini then?

Have you still got the roof folding bars/roof?

I would say go for paint on the boot as well, presonally i prefer it and if you want a sleeper look (lol, good luck on that one) you rarely achieve it with carbon wieve panels!

Are you picturing two Audi TT style roll bars for him?

Keiths job???? Whos that then???

They were first to be sold. I have no need for a roof for this as its just my dry summer toy really. One of them garage cars as i live in the UK lol

Are you picturing two Audi TT style roll bars for him?

Yeah, im just thinking 2 mandrel bends behind the 2 front seats. Get them powder coated polished black rather than polished.

Gonna clean my garage up today, then go do some more work on Charlie. Going to sort the doors out. Im not using doors. Its going to be one of those climb over jobbies :w00t:

Thanks for the coments guys.

I think its (correction 'was') a 'Keiths Convertibles' job on the roof chop. www.keithsconvertibles.co.uk

How much did you sell them for just out of interest? I also have a convert and am thinking about making a new roof for her!

Another question i was going to ask is whether you were planning on deseaming the back where the second roof is attached?
