HI all, before I pull every last hair out, I've returned to the forums to seek help on my mini SPI.

Wish I had bought a carb to be honest now but...hindsight's a *******.

Back story, mini died one night and wouldn't crank, turned out it was some weird problem with the immobiliser that somehow fixed itself, then cranked but wouldn't fire until i found that fuse 11 was blown, replaced that and it worked...for about 2 weeks until it died randomly at the dead of night and has not fired since.

I cant hear the fuel pump whirring now when i turn on the ignition, put a simple wire from the battery live to the fuel pump and VOILA it whirrs, so fuel pumps not an issue, it cranks very healthily so immobiliser doesnt seem to be the issue and I have spark. I know sht all about car electrics but ive got a glow lamp thingy and thought id see which fuses were getting voltage with the ignition on and most seem to except fuse 11, which as i understand is the fuel fuse, and some other fuses.

Any ideas guys or can some electrical expert tell me where to go from here? Young chap and love cars, always been into landrovers because they are soo simple and now have ended up with this mini which is the most fun thing to drive that I have touched, but im really finding it hard to work on and finding it reliable as sh*t and getting expensive.

Ideas would be appreciated.

And yes, i have tried the fuel cut off switch and even brought a new one, it may be the wiring to the switch tbf, my wiring is mostly very shoddy looking so considering buying entire new looms but really dont want to spend much more on this

Fuse 11 is the fuel pump but power to the fuse comes from the fuel relay in the relay modual which is controlled by the ECU. Check fuse 8 which powers the ECU

Checked fuse 8 and it seems to be getting power when the ignitions on, could the fuel relay in the relay module be the problem?

The moduals are prone to water damage . It is possible to open them and repair

Ok, if im not getting any power to fuse 11 with the ignition on, what does that suggest?

What wires should i be looking for etc. to see whether theres any break in the connections or anything

Just opened up the relay pack and noticed it looks like something has burnt out...could this be the issue?

Re solder it.But be aware there is another problem with this circuit. Possibly the fuelpump is too old and soaks too much current.

Keeping old cars on the road needs a lot of technical knowledge and the ability to work on and solve problems or it will be getting a terrible expensive hobby.

Please don't give up. SPIs are generally very reliable but electrical problems do occur from time to time. It's just taken me a couple of months to sort out a misfiring problem - it was electrical and I'm no good at auto electrics - but it now runs better than ever. Good luck

Thanks both, I'll try not to give up, I do have knowledge when it comes to older cars that are a lot simpler, just this single point injection system with the rover immobiliser is right in the Era of things getting modern without getting better, thanks though. So far I have made 30k on a 101 forward control so it's not been too expensive! Minis just for fun. Do you have any suggestions to find the cause of the problem then? Or could it be that water had just got into the module?

Right, brought a soldering kit, watched a few tutorials on yt, and tadaa she runs!

Only thing that concerns me now is like genpop said, there must be an underlying problem somwehere, fuse 11 had burnt out, which i stupidly just replaced, and then the relay module burnt out. any suggestions to figure out how to find this problem?

Thanks for the help guys

Take the tank and pump out, chances are its corroded, which could cause these resulting issues.

Already did that and tested the pump but will do it again and replace the pump for good measure

I had a similar if not same problem.
The pump would work whenever it wanted. Did so many things, and each of the f@$#!^g things I was doing, was working!
It trned out that it was a coincidence. ECU had a problem. My electrician bypassed the ECU and the pump is working continuously when I turn on the keys. One day I will take the ECU to fix it.
