Pre Verto Clutch Rebuilt Engine - Not Engaging When Running

Best Answer nicklouse , 17 May 2023 - 10:45 AM

Stop bolt clearance not set.

clutch arm should move about 1/2”

or everything is worn out and you are not disengaging the clutch.

Hey all,

I have an issue with engaging the gears. First I apologise for my terminology, I hope I get my point across.

Full rebuild engine including pre-verto clutch. Clutch has been bled.

When engine isnt running I can engage all gears.

Clutch pedal goes right to the floor. Pre verto long arm actuates well.

When engine is running:

Clutch pedal can go right to the floor, little resistence until it hits the floor. Arm actuates fully. No issues with overthrow nut etc.

When attempting to put it in gear, itll whine/crunch, as though I havent pushed the clutch pedal down. I pushed it a little hard on one occasion and it caused the car to stall.

Whatever mechanics are supposed to be happening inside the clutch housing dont appear to be happening.

What is the likely cause of this? Please assume (if you cannot already tell) Im a novice at this. Thanks.

..this doesn't sound right - you should feel some resistance as the release bearing contacts the diaphragm and then compresses the spring

did you refit the release bearing and the diaphragm thrust plate ?
