Hi everyone,

My SPi Cooper is 1992 so it's the earlier style of SPi system with a Throttle Position Sensor behind the accelerator pedal.

I've recently put it back on the road after an extensive restoration and it's now got a high idle.

I've had it plugged in and there's no vacuum leaks, although the lambda voltage is a bit suspect but that's for another day. If I push the top of the accelerator pedal against the position sensor, I can bring the idle down.

So I'm thinking, if I put a washer between the sensor bracket and the pedal box, that would bring the sensor closer to the pedal and make it be "closed" more often. There's plenty of slack in the accelerator cable so I know I won't be affecting anything at the stepper motor end!

Just wondering if anyone's done similar? Or whether I'm actually supposed to have a washer or spacer there and it's actually missing!

Well… I’m yet to go on a drive but…

A couple of washers down the back of the sensor seems to have brought the idle down and taken the play out of the accelerator pedal!
