With a lot of classic cars and minis being stolen id like to fit a removable steering wheel to My 1983 mini.

id also like to fit a 13” (350mm) deep dish suede steering wheel,

anyone fitted a removable?? Hard to find the right boss?? None of the mini shops seem to sell them.

any Advice and pictures would be great

You have a few options. Get a boss that has the same patten as a removable adaptor. Or get a converter to change from your boss PCD to the adaptor PCD. Or you can get one of the steering columns with a weld on adaptor which will need the addition of a UJ between the colum and rack. This set up moves the wheel position less.

A friend uses the "Go Race" steering column which is a modified column which is supplied with the weld on adapter fitted.
No free play in the quick release mechanism and the steering wheel remains in its standard position in relation to the indicator and wiper switches.

That’s the one I was thinking of.

And this what I was on about the adaptors. I wanted the wheel further back.

You need to stop your car being towed away  --------------------  and broken for spares.

I know, that’s the thing, even with no steering wheel it can still be dragged on to a trailer can’t it, might be one of a couple of things i can do

No such thing. The go race needs the extra UJ so you will be stripping down your steering column and modified it.

you could look at what removable kits are available that will fit the wheel you want and then see what bosses are available to fit the Mini. IIRC there are some but one (can’t remember the fitting) fell to bits when I tested it in the shop.

The Go-Race column is a straight swap for the standard one, no UJ required.

There are bolt on quick release kits on ebay for 20-30 quid which bolt on to your original boss.
A bit "ish" and chinese made so doesn't instill me with confidence when ripping round the lanes!

Not seen the wheel end yet to understand how it fits through the column.

The original steering wheel spline and thread is cut off the column and the quick release spline is welded on in it's place, therefore the column remains standard length and the Go Race quick release mechanism connects straight to the modified column and stalks remain within easy reach for road use.

I noticed Mountney make their own quick release - https://www.opieoils...untney-qrh.aspx

BG make this one - https://www.merlinmo...y-bosses-bg4924

The Go Race one looks nice but it around double the price of the two above.
