Whats the consensus here?

I know I am perhaps answering my own question by saying 'gaskets should always be replaced', but are there exceptions?

If a manifold gasket was only used for a few months and about 100 miles before pulling the engine out again, and was not damaged when removing the manifold/carb, does this warrent replacing it?

Cheers

my question would be how much is a new one and how difficult are they to get hold of

if the answers are 'cheap' and 'easy' why even bother messing about

What type of gasket is it?  I've found the metal type are reasonably reusable in an emergency but the paper ones tend not to be.  As above if they are easily available and not expensive then just change it, if not then assess how it is and it will either work or not.

On a road car -use new - quite cheap  and the material used like that of the minispares big port is good. ( that is the one i have used on a 1275 racer..... not advocating it  for other uses , but it build is excellent)

I always apply hi temp antiseize on both surfaces _ ( currently silver antiseize) -it reduces sticking potential if your manifold is coming off regularly.

someone else's idea - ( maybe Cooperman) but I  replace exhaust manifold studs with hex headed grub screws and ARP 12 point nuts if you don't like the brass offerings -  installation is a breeze

If the manifolds have come off clean, I re-use them.

Done that going back eons.

It's not the cost, I just don't like waste when there's nothing wrong with the gasket that's there.

Thanks everyone,

agree the cost is litte so if I was worried about it I'd replace. but if you are in a pinch, need to get the car running again for an event etc...

Also getting a gasket that costs 'nothing' to where I live takes 10-14 days, and costs another £10-15 at least with delivery so the costs start adding up if you have express or little orders.

Just good to know the options and as Spider mentioned, shame to waste a good gasket if it can still be used.

Worst case, its 'relativley' easy to replace if you have a spare waiting in the wings or on order.

I bought the C-AHT381 large port version and it worked very well for me. I have a 1293cc A+.

Oh dear, why does this make me think of the question.

If I only had sex a few times, and it was quite a long time ago, is it all right to say I'm a virgin ?
