Pulled out the spark plugs tonight to check out what the fuelling was like, as I suspected it was running rich (black sooty tailpipe & bogging down on acceleration).

Sure enough, plugs 2 & 3 were very much sooty black, but 1 & 4 were white (lean?)

Wonder what can be causing this? And how do I remedy it?

If you’re using a single SU carb it’s normal to have some amount of inner (cylinders 2/3) and outer (1/4) imbalance in the fuel distribution due to the manifold and having Siamese intake ports

I’d start with a fresh set of plugs, but there’s not much else to fix the problem, unless it’s something like poor plug leads or distributor cap condition which are affecting the cylinders differently
