So how the hell does that get through the IVA test?

Thats easy, you just don't tell them and because of its age it doen't need an MOT so just don't present it for one (tounge in cheek). I'm afraid the days of chopping cars up and carrying on driving under the original identity are behind us and anyone buying (or selling) anything like this is likely to be in for a rude awakening at some point.
Yup you are correct, there was someone of FB this week asking what they can do as the dvla has withdrawn there v5 as they made the silly mistake of telling them the car at some point in its life had been converted into a T top type convertible. As normal now the dvla told them it needs an IVA test and then be issued with a Q plate. The days of big body mods are over. People will be caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, tell the dvla and try to get the car through an IVA test and end up with a Q plate or don't tell them and basically I suppose drive around without insurance as the insurance company will null and void the policy when they find out a non listed modification has been carried out. I do know of a way round the problem but it's a bit convoluted and not for this forum ( it's not ringing either)
