Advice please. I’ve just installed a straight cut gearbox and drops onto my turbo engine. I also purchased and installed a RTS clutch built by Vmaxscart (off eBay seller).
Engine running perfectly and new gearbox all seems fine (with engine off).

With the engine running I seem to have clutch drag and I can’t select any gears.
I’ve re-bled the clutch and it all seems to work fine, apart from the clutch drag.

Any ideas or has anyone experienced this with a RTS clutch?

Thanks

Hydraulics would be a prime suspect with any stronger pressure plate. The slave cylinder bracket can also flex on the Verto. I'd start by looking at both of those. See if the throw-out stop is touching the wok when the clutch is held in & back it off if it does.

Looks like hydraulics May just be the cause. The clutch plunger is not going in far enough, probably around 3-4mm travel left. So I’m going to renew all the moving parts and master & slave cylinder. Hopefully this will have marginal improvements in all areas.

A botch you could easily try is to pop something on the end of the  pushrod in the slave cylinder, like a small socket. That should push the piston farther back where it may seal better because the cylinder wall is likely to be in better condition. It would still make sense to give it a bit of an overhaul as the double plate will expose play in worn pivot pins etc. A steel braided hose can also help direct more of the effort in to operating the clutch instead of taking up the slack.

sometimes these need a little time to bed in,

you've got two springs that will be sliding against each other, and this sliding motion may be a bit stiff to start with, when Ive built these Ive stuck " graphite friction modifier" between them ( yes i colour the faces in with a pencil! LOL)

my last one barely disengaged at first then settled in nicely to the point i was able to lengthen the verto arm by about 1/3 to give a softer pedal

Managed to remove the clutch case last night and inspect all the parts. Looks like the plunger has quite a lot of wear, this is where the Verto arm ball sits. I’m hoping this is the root cause of the problem but I’ve decided to change all parts just in case. Should have it back together later in Week.

So, I’ve replaced Master and Slave cylinder, all linkages, thrust bearing etc.. complete new Verto set up.

Started the engine today and still the same problem. It won’t go into gear.

Before I take the engine out and remove the RTS clutch set up…any more ideas?

The plunger that pushes the thrust bearing just does not seem to push is sufficiently to disengage the clutch.

I’ve run out of ideas to be honest.

Could the RTS clutch just be too much for the Verto set up?

Thanks

Enough have made them work.. If it's coming out, you could check the fabricated bits against the specs in the original TurboMinis topic, I see there's a Youtube vid too. I've not built one, but it looks like you need to add spacing equal to the added plate to get the preload back to where it was. I think I remember the original took a bit more of a sophisticated approach than the one in the Youtube vid!

.....7mm ?!?!?!

Straight cut drops must mean you've changed the primary gear bushing too, another clearance you could check.

This may sound noddy - but is the top hat on the clutch? And is the release bearing the right way round? With the engine off, how much forward and and backwards movement is there of the plunger?
