Hi folk.

Getting round to fitting the 1275 engine in place of 998.

Engine came with no dizzy, have sourced one thanks to AC Dodd.

Please help.

No 1 cyl. Far right. Piston is at TDC, both valves are shut. I have the wok inspection cover off looking for a marking but cannot see one at all, not just in this position but full 360.

The dizzy key way is at 11 and 5 on a clock face.

On the 998, i took it off and looked, at TDC it was 2.30 and 8.30.

So the dizzy rotor arm is pointing in a different direction when comparing the 998 and 1275.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you KTS.

Just had a google and Ive now done exactly that.

There was a white mark on the flywheel, no 1 valves are shut and at tdc.

Removed the drive and now in at the correct place.

My first time for this lol.

I’d suggest adding an external timing pointer and mark on the crank pulley so you can easily check the timing once it’s running

Why would the 998 position differ from the 1275 and from supplied dizzy or do we assume a previous owner bodge?

We assume the previous owner of the 1275 had inserted the distributor drive in the wrong orientation.

Conveniently already has some, once running il adjust the the timing.
