Have just finished watching the latest season (6) of Black Mirror on Netflix. The last installment (Demon 79) heavily features a 60's mini.

I checked out the number plate (LLY 994D) via the gov website and I can see it has no current MOT (it would be historic status, so no prob there). I can see the last time it's MOT status was logged on the site it was at 50+k on the clock and only travelling a few miles a year with v healthy MOT statuses. So a cherished 850. But it's listed as blue when the car in the show is red.

Not sure what happens with vehicles on TV, but is it known that they will use a genuine no. plate on another car in a show? Or perhaps the car was wrapped!?

Great scene with the mini ramming another car off the road and 'sticking it to the man'. I thought it was a fun watch and fantastic to see a mini featured.

Let's see more minis on the box.

With hired in vehicles for film and TV, often the owner will sign a waiver allowing their reg to be used on screen.  Companies supplying these vehicles (often sourced from third parties from their network) often keep a stock of screen cleared regs, that have been issued by DVLA purely for screen use.  Also the companies sometimes have their own in house stock vehicles, which they don't mind using the regs for other vehicles.

With new vehicles in TV commercials (my area) the DVLA issues us a set of unissued regs, complete with V5C so we can legally use on the open road for filming purposes. Often the cars are either unregistered pre productions or customer cars we use before delivery.

I'm not sure if the same is true now, but there used to be a DVLA FIlm and TV liaison officer who would issue unused regs purely for film and TV use, but with the caveat that they may get sold off in the future. So bigger productions will buy regs from DVLA direct so they own it.

I've not seen the sequence, but it it sounds like perhaps the car was wrapped or painted, as the director desired a red car.

Cheers Beardy.

Thought it odd with the colour difference....think it must be a wrap as can't see an owner allowing a repaint of what looks to be (DVLA records considered) a cherished historic car with a low milage for its age.
