Hi Mini fans,

My spi has been sat for 4 years and I'm just getting it ready for the road again.

I understand that I need to prime the fuel pump before starting, but I cannot undo the nut on the block end of the oil filter pipe. It is a shallow nut, around 4mm, and I can't get a spanner round it due to its position. The oil filter pipe comes out the middle of it too (not a banjo) which makes things trickier.

Is there a way to prime the oil pump without getting oil down that hole?

Any help would be much appreciated as I really want to get cooper back on the road! 👍

The oil pump won't be dry. I'd just turn it over with no spark plugs in until you get oil pressure. Make sure you've got fresh oil in there though. Old/used oil goes acidic over time.

Oh okay that great news, thank you Steve.

I turned it over with no spark plugs in yesterday for a full minute and got no oil pressure so assumed it needed some help.

I'll try again today a couple more times 👍

And I bought a crowfoot spanner to get that nut off so I can prime the pump now if I need to.

Aaaand we have oil pressure!

Tried turning it over a few more times with no luck. Primed the pump just in case, and then got oil pressure after another minute or so of cranking.

Might have got there without priming, but I'd bought the crowfoot spanner to get than nut off, so off it came!

One step closer to getting it back on the road.
