Hi New on here so hopefully someone can help with my problem. Well here we go I Have just put a new engine in my 91 mini only to discover the 84 engine has an Inertia starter not a pre engaged so have now put in the correct one and a remote solenoid. my question is about the fitted starter Relay do I bypass it or can I just put a smaller spade on the brown and red wire and connect that to the new solinoid Graeme

Keep the relay and use it to switch the solenoid, that'd be my preference. You could keep later clutch though.

Pleased your Min's up 'n running. It'll prolong the life your ignition switch & if the relay does die, you can just join the solenoid & ignition switch terminals on it together.

....little flash of perspiration, if they're not in a socket, you could use a piggyback terminal for the solenoid and make it even easier.

On a pre-engaged starter you need to use an external relay to activate the solenoid. The solenoid uses too much current, it might work for a while or for some of the time but it will not last long or be reliable.
