I can't see how to lower the bonnet so that the trim lines up with the grill

I thought about raising the grill to meet it but that's relatively involved (trimming top of grill and re-aligning grill buttons) and the bonnet does seem to sit a little high in relation to the wings

Adjusting the catch on the bonnet doesn't seem to do it and just makes it harder to close

If the bonnet will physically push down to line up then you need to adjust the catch.
If not then some more investigation is needed to find the problem, it should line up.

I had a closer look. There is only a few mm between the screws for the bonnet chrome strip and the top of the front panel. So it can't go down any further

However, there is also quite a gap on the front curve where it goes from vertical to horizontal. So it seems like the front of the bonnet is too long. There's every chance it could be an aftermarket bonnet. i don't know

By the looks of it i may have to slice a portion of the grill away and redrill the grill buttons

Edit: i see the hockey sticks are already pretty close to the headlights

I've loosened the bonnet trim screws and allowed it to drop

I may raise the grill tomorrow

I'd take the plunger off the bonnet first and see if it comes down more.
It's sitting a lot higher than the wings.
Has it had new panels?
The chrome strip on the bonnet isn't the same contour as the grille either

I don't know about originally as the front of my bonnet was rusted away but with a new BMH bonnet my one lines up similar to your second photo. Maybe not quite as bad but it definitely isn't perfect and I couldn't see any easy way to fix it.

The reflections are making it difficult but it looks like you might have a non genuine bonnet which will likely be why.

Could you not remove the bonnet trim and bend/tweak it to follow the contour on the grille?

I lowered the chrome trim with spacers between the trim and the bonnet. I'm happy with the result

This has now accentuated the badly fitting bonnet. It is an aftermarket part (it has hinge brackets for mk1 and later cars) and mainly it seems to be sitting too far forward

Unfortunately the hinges are at their maximum adjustment. Up to 1cm extra adjustment would make a big difference

But i'm happy with what i've done and will worry about the rest of it later on

Can you not file or cut the hinge slots wider? the ones on my car are rectangular instead of circular, so there is a lot more room for adjustment.
