bought a new speedo cable (old one snapped at the speedo end) says its British made - but having a lot of trouble fitting it on a 3 clock binnacle

with the new cable do I use the white adapter thingy ?? ( see pic ) the new cable wont push on the back of the speedo with this in place ? and the speedo doesn't seem to work without it ? do I need it ? can I buy a new one ? not that impressed with the quality of the new cable so have bought a new Rover old stock gsd415 from ebay and waiting for this to turn up - clocks are the 3 clock 120 mph ones (on a 998cc !)

I now cant find the white adapter thing !   any thoughts ??

BUMP !

the original speedo cable turned out to be the wrong one (was in a wrong bag !) have tried one of the UK made gsd415 - speedo works for about 1/4 of a mile then starts to wobble and then drops back to 0 MPH and won't move !

doing my head in !!!

any ideas ???

Ive tried taking all of the speedo drive off on the gearbox to ensure the inner cable is properly inserted at the gearbox end - Help !!

cheers

Matt

Take just the core of a cable and insert it into the speedo. Put the other end into a drill and run it in reverse. See what happens.

My speedo would only work for a few kms, then wobble vaguely for a few more seconds then stop reading completely. I took the cable out and put a light coating of moly grease on it, popped it back in and it works perfectly now, we done 75km run a few weeks ago and it kept registering the correct speed within 2km/h
