I’m running an electric fuel pump, facet silver top but no filter or pressure regulator.   Engines a 1310, sw10 cam, swifttune head, twin 1 1/2 su, so a decent output.

Definitely going to add a fuel filter before the pump but do I need a regulator as well?  If I do how do you set pressure needed?

SU carbs need about 2.5psi or the float chamber valve can be overcome. The new vitrion tipped needles are meant to be able to hold much more than the old brass ones.

many facet pump have a filter built in.

you use a pressure gauge to measure it.

Personally I like to use a regulator, I don't use an additional filter before the pump as the Red Top (and presumably the Silver)  has a filter in it which I check occasionally. As for setting the pressure, undo the locknuts on top and twiddle the screw, you can use an inline pressure gauge or temporarily fit a gauge to some of the Filter Kings to measure the pressure.

I drilled and tapped my filter king to allow a gauge to be temporarily installed to set the pressure.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  Will add it to the list to get done.

Had AC Dodd tune the car over the weekend and was recommended to change the float valves in the chamber to the newer type and then add the fuel regulator at the same time.

So aim for about 2/2.5 psi which is a fair drop from the 4 / 4.5psi it kicks out as standard.

Thanks again
