Hi guys I am about to fit a new windscreen rubber on my mini after a 2 year restoration and just wanted to double check the fitment. Am I right in thinking that the smaller slot in the seal goes onto the body and the wider the glass. That seems the obvious to me but I did see someone say the opposite way was correct!
Thanks

Yes, you’re correct.
Thin slot to body, wide slot for glass

Hi,

I fitted mine with the narrower slot onto the metal and wider slot onto the glass, which should be the norm. I would suggest however that you apply a sealant to both channels. 3m do one which does not set hard, sorry I cannot remember it's full name but it is black in colour. It can be a bit messy but it is well worth it as it does stop water getting in and down behind the dash and then onto the carpets.

I agree, my fitter uses Arbormast on my cars.

What you are thinking of is 3M 8509 bedding and glazing compound. That is the correct product, there are also other manufacturers of equivalent products, search for a mastic windscreen sealant.

Position the rubber, with the join at the top of the screen, and the expander with the join at the bottom of the screen.

I thought both joins go at top of screen both front and rear
Am I wrong?

I tried my way with both joins at the top and also tried the rubber join at the bottom and expander/filler join at the top

With the rubber join and the expander join in the same place - the clip does not go in easily and also looks not seated correctly.

With the 2 joins sperate  the filler clip fits better and must seal better.

As for which way top or bottom the 2 seals go???

I put the rubber at the bottom and the filler join at the top.

Anyway your way above is the best way
