My Midas is called Zippy, because it's orange (and was always going to be).
I have had numerous other Minis in the past which I shall list below:
1977 Mini 1000 - Huey. Why? My brother read the 2000Ad comic, and one of the stories in it at the time was called Full Mental Jackets after a gang in it. The gang's leader was called Dog, and his best friend was called Huey. The car, when I bought it, was a bit of a dog, but I decided that Dog was a bit harsh of a name, so Huey he became. Scrapped in 1996 after I sold it with a week's MOT left on it.
1979 Mini 1000. I bought this as an engine donor for Huey after an overheating and clanking A12 moment. It was rusty and Russet Brown, so it became "Ian". Why? the TV series "Not The Nine O'clock News" had a couple of books released in diary form called "NOT 1982" and "NOT 1983". There was a name in there called "Ian T*rd", so that fitted. Scrapped in 1995.
1970 Mini 1000. Bought for some spare bits, this was a horrid nasty thing that had obviously spent some of its life in the sea it was so rusty. Rear subframe was almost in two, nearly every panel had holes in it, there was next to no floor, and EVERYTHING was worn out. I called it Basket Case. I sent it to the scrapyard, towed behind my mate's Granada on just the handbrake. No electrics (no battery), no brakes (no fluid) and barely any steering. Be worth 4 figures in that state now!
1979 1275 GT with 1330 engine: Bruce. This was because the previous owner called it Doris, and because it was what I would describe as a "bad-tempered" car, I decided it had to be male. I'd seen something on the tv with a henchman called Bruce, and decided that this would be perfect. Sold in 1998, and remains the only vehicle I wish I had never sold.
1984 Mini 25. She was called Carrie, because I couldn't think of anything at the time, other than "She carries things". Should have been Milo after the "MLO" suffix on the number plate. She ended up doing Ministox long after I sold her.
1985 Mini Mayfair. "Melanie C". Nothing actually to do with the Spice Girls - she was just called Melanie because "M for Mayfair" and "C" because she was a C-reg.
1974 Mini 1275 GT bought as an engine donor for Melanie. This was named as "Henry" by my friend. No idea why!
