Hi, I've just bought an x reg 1000cc HL auto mini project. There's a little caveat with this in that the previous owner has made it clear that in the future I can't sell it on unless I offer it to him first. He got this mini when he was a lad and so is very much attached to it but simply doesn't have the time to get it back on the road. He's actually going to take the engine and auto box back once I get it out so that he can fit it back in to keep the car fully correct. Which is a good thing as I have a rebuilt 1310 and gearbox which I'm going to use in this car and then I can keep that for the project after this one! Anyhoo, I was thinking about taking out the front loom and giving that to him and then buying a new loom that will have non ballast and a rev counter wire, probably late 1275GT? However it seems that all I have to do is to make a loop for the auto selector feed wire and the existing loom is good to use, is this correct? I'll obviously have to put in a wire for a rev counter if I decide to fit one and check that there is a 12v feed for the coil.

They might already be there. Yes, you can bridge the inhibitor switch wires and add the ignition bits if necessary, it'll be easier than than swapping a loom.

Cheers Ethel, the existing loom will get checked over for damage etc and if everything looks ok then we'll make the small changes and use what's there.

I'll probably strip the old vinyl covering tape to fully check and add the rev counter wire and small changes ( I'll be using a pre engaged starter so will convert the separate solenoid on the inner wing to a constant positive bus bar to avoid all the extra feed wires going to the positive post on the starter) and then recover with some more updated covering.

Under the dash should be where the starter wire gets extended to the inhibitor switch. You should be able to unplug the extension and the other wires should be able to be connected together. The same wiring is used for autos and manuals but the inhibitor extension just gets plugged in.
