Hello hope I can Get a view on my subject, having just rebuilt a 1967 Cooper S I am getting near the stage of repressurising the suspension but after removing the old Schrader valve cores they are shot so need replacing, after reading a few adverts on Ebay people seem to be selling "special" Hydrolastic valve cores so I assume they are higher pressure cores ? if so are lorry cores suitable ? many thanks in advance.

I use standard tyre valves in mine and they work fine. I guess that in operation the additional pressure is acting to keep the valve closed so nothing special is needed. There are many designs of valves available so I would pick something that looks similar to your existing ones.

Can I ask a question. What pressure do the systems run at? I have no idea.
but MTB air shocks use standard schrader valves and cores and they run a quite high pressures with big leverages applied. Not to mention ac systems, fuel injection systems.
there are different diameters and I think a small change to the core length but I would be happy fitting one that fitted.
others might have better info.

The pumps have gauges, but you pump it up to raise the body to a specific height. Don't think I ever looked at the pressure, but it a tyre footprint looks a similar area, so tyre pressure x suspension leverage can't be far off

They are just a standard Schrader Core, same as in 99.99% of the cars on the road. It's the small size of the valves that let them cope with high pressures and they are made from materials that don't rust or readily corrode.

Static, they are just under 300 PSI off hand.
