I have a 92 Mayfair which I am rebuilding can you tell me do you have the adjusting screw in the car near the handbrake lever or under the car just before it splits to the rear drums thanks

Under the car, adjusting on the splitter plate that pulls the rear cable.

I think you will find cable adjuster is inside car.

From the layout shown here it appears to be under the car, but then the item 13 is described as being at the front, so fair enough, inside the car it is.

I agree the illustration does look confusing! perhaps early models were like that? i have 4 late mini's and they all have adjusters at handbrake lever inside. make sure drums are adjusted before adjusting cable.

It would probably work either way. I'd sooner have the thread on the inside where it's less likely to corrode & seize and you can adjust the lever pull at the lever.
