I never really noticed before but the chrome surround on a Mini's door seems to be only on early Mini's and Innocenti Coopers.

Now i can't unsee that it looks odd to have a shiny metal surround on the rear side windows but not around the door windows.

Perhaps it was done on later car to save money?

Is a shiny surround available to retrofit?

I’ve been there with that. A previous owner must of removed them on mine as I used to wonder what the filled holes in the door frames were for. I finally twigged and fitted some not with the rivets but with tigerseal and it looks right now! So yes they are available search :- door mouldings on Minispares.

Fyi, the Innocenti ones wrap around the top of the window frame to cover up 3 screws/rivets that hold the quarter light triangle window in place, whereas the Coopers are just a trim piece that sits on the side of the window frame. Nowadays often glued instead the more complicated mounting system it comes with.

The door trims were fitted to all UK built Mk1 and Mk2 Mini Coopers and also the Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet.

Note: The taller doors of the Mk3 onwards Mini need the taller trim fitted to the later Elf and Hornet with winding windows.

Minispares sell reproduction versions of the trims plus the rivets needed to fit them.

I bought some of the Minispares ones for my Mini. However I am somewhat reluctant to drill holes in the doors and I'm not sure how you would get them onto the rivets anyway?

Gluing them on seems like a less destructive idea.
What's the best glue to stick them down with?

I was advised to use tiger seal and it was fine.

Any good RTV adhesive/sealant is fine. I normally use a clear one, glue the trim on and clamp it in place until it goes off, then use a plastic knife to cut back any adhesive which has seeped out and set.

Thanks both. I'll get some tiger seal and make my door frames all shiny :-)
