I’ve just finished rebuilding my mini (centre 3 gauge dash) and I’ve got a wiring issue, it has everything electrical new… loom, fuse box (2fuse) horn, single stalk etc… when you flash headlights they don’t flash but the horn goes and if you keep flashing the fuse blows…. You press the horn button and there’s nothing… everything else works fine, all lights, indicators, interior light… ideas please??

Possibly a detached wire on the stalk. There's a single wire goes up the stalk & the stalk itself is the other conductor in the circuit, via a wire that's attached at the bottom. It's prone to breaking off from all the flexing it gets & the other contacts are nearby for shorting, like the high beam. If it was elsewhere it'd likely do the same with high beam (stalk forward).

I’ve just put on a brand new lucus stalk and it’s still doing the same, so I’m guessing the problem is after the stalk🤦🏽‍♂️does the horn and flasher work of the same power feed?

The horn couldn't be wired for a steering wheel horn push could it?

If we're thinking of the same Mk3 Mini stalk, with horn push, it earths via the horn. Steering wheel centre pushes have 12v fed to the horn that earths via the horn push.

Assuming 3-4 fuse is ok, it might be a gritty connection where the multi plugs join
Is brake fluid light ok?

Just seen this after posting. No help to you I’m afraid. We are encountering similar problems with our 1981 mini. Bought a new headlight switch and power to one terminal but the other connections go to earth. We are just starting to look at the light stalk but struggling to get the steering wheel of the splines. Judicious tapping from underneath is not working so will sprat with penetrating wd-40 and keep persisting.

Make a wheel puller with some flat bar and a couple of exhaust clamps around the spokes.Keep the nut on and be careful of your face.Steve..
