Hi. I have an Spi Sidewalk, and am the second owner, I've had it 23 years. It is completely standard apart from a K&N in the airbox and a Maniflow exhaust. Could someone kindly point me in the direction to find out the engine spec, please? Head, valve sizes, cam etc. I'm trying to understand the difference between it and an Spi Cooper. Once I have this info. I'll look into making some mods, using some parts I've gathered over the years. I'm not bothered about any effect this might have on the value as it is a "Cat D" - my daughter used the back of a Volvo as a braking aid 17 years ago and I bought it back & had it rebuilt. Many thanks.

EDIT: Trawling through older posts on here has been helpful (I think!). Seemingly the 53bhp and 63bhp Spi's have the same Head, but different, ECU, Compression ratio (9.4 -v- 10.1) and a different cam.

So my thinking is; ditch the ECU, fit twin SU's, an MED Head with 35.6 inlets and a 24.5cc unswept capacity (so 10.1 c/r), and 1.5 roller rockers ought to give me better performance.

Any thoughts welcomed - especially of what I'm missing!

Thanks.

If you are in the UK the carbs will cause an MOT failure just on emissions.removing the cat should fail on a visual inspection if fitted originally(probably)Steve..

And you will not pass the MOT with that spec.

Perhaps I should have said that I'm planning to put the engine in a 50+ year old car.
