Hi everyone.
I’ve had a sun motor tester for about a year and a half now. I saw it late one night on Facebook market place and it was free… what more could I ask for. After eventually dragging it out of Acton fire station and getting it home , I came to the realisation that although all the switches, dials and oscilloscopes are very cool, I have no idea what all of it does. Having searched for a manual for too long now I wondered if anyone on the forum had a manual or any working knowledge of how the motor tester operates and what it all means. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try https://g2carguy.com/ which is run by Mark Burright who used to work for SUN.

I do have some SUN manuals which might help but probably not for your exact model. I think the SUN analysers all used the same colour coded leads so the information on how to connect an engine will still apply.

I can probably explain how to use it as the concepts for all engine analysers are of course the same so I can assist. I have four Allen engine analysers.

It looks like he doesn't have that model listed. When I am home later I will check what manuals I have (all of them I found online for free).

I think I have at least one SUN training document which would be a good start.

I guess your first question is how to connect it to a car?

Here is a link to a folder on the internet archive with a lot of different SUN an Allen manuals. If you read these from both manufacturers then you should be able to understand the machine. https://archive.org/...erence 25763-1/

Even though I have Allen machines I have read manuals from Allen, SUN, Vane and Crypton. Each one might have a little bit different information on pattern analysis. When the machines were new the manufacturers ran multi day training courses to teach people how to use them. Engine analysers can tell so many things about an engine without having to guess and quickly, SUN had the phrase "Test not guess"

This chart is from a later machine but I believe SUN always kept the same coloured leads. at least a few of these you won't have and can be ignored. the important ones are the Red trigger pick-up, vacuum, chrome secondary, red clip, black clip, green clip.
