Getting to the last point in a restoration and having a really frustrating problem with the hazards/indicators.

I have got the hazards to work when the indicator is on and the hazard switch is turned on. But can't get the them to work on individual sides. The interior light is also intermittent. Will turn on but then won't turn back on after being turned off (assume this is due to the fuse blowing?).

Also got the problem that the inline fuse behind the cluster keeps blowing (15 amp).

The indicator stalk, hazard switch, interior light, and both flasher units are all brand new. As far as I'm aware all the grounds are solid as tested with a multimeter.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix or something else to fix?

Any help is much appreciated! (1980 Mini 1000)

You will need to follow through the circuits to see what is causing these fuses to blow.

Starting with the Hazard Warning/ Interior light circuit.

Start with the ignition switch OFF, the hazard warning switch OFF and the indicator stalk switch OFF and use a test lamp for fault finding.

The fuse that feeds this circuit is fed from a permanently live fuse, Green wire, that has a Purple/Orange wire going from it. This feeds the interior light and the Hazard warning flasher relay, check this is the case and open both doors so that the interior light works and the fuse stays intact. If the fuse blows then the fault lies with this circuit, investigate and repair as needed.

With the fuse is intact go to the Hazard flasher unit, the Purple/Orange wire to terminal B will be live as will the Light Green/Pink on terminal L.

The LIght Green/Pink feeds the Hazard warning switch and when the switch is operated a flashing output should be on the Green/White and Green/Red of the switch and all the external lamps will flash. Any deviation from the above description will need investigation and repair. If all works as described move on as follows.

Switch OFF the Hazard warning switch and now move onto the directional indicators circuit.

This circuit is fed from a switched live through a fuse, this also supplies the Brake light circuit so ensure there are no faults there.

Switch ON the ignition and the live feed should will be on terminal B, Green wire, of the direction indicator flasher unit and on the Light Green/Brown, terminal L, leaving the flasher unit feeding the Hazard warning switch then on the Light Geen/Brown going from the Hazard warning switch to the stalk switch. Operating the stalk switch should turn on the exterior indicator lamps, the Green/Red and Green/White wires as appropriate.

This is how the circuits work and any discrepencies will have to be addressed/repaired.

I used a circuit diagram for a 1976 on vehicle and have quoted the colours etc from same and hope this is as you have.

Methodically work through the above plan and rectify faults as you find them then proceed to the next part.

This is my understanding of these circuits and I hope it will help you find the fault.
