Is there some sort of knack to it or have I done something wrong as my boot won’t shut now at all with the early type boot seal which I was told to get as I have an early boot lid and I had a later style seal on for a while but it always leaked so I have gotten round to putting the early one directly onto the boot lid but now I am miles away from shutting it

Mk1 Forum has a 3 page thead on this...

Boot Lid will not close:-

Unfortunately the seals available from most places are too hard.
At least Phoenix are honest enough to tell you that in their description.
They offer a stick on alternative they say works better:-

The Phoenix boot seal for mk1 is excellent. I've used all their seals on my 66 mk1 restoration. They have a choice of 4 thicknesses for mk1 door seals as well.

I have now fitted the seal and it is perfect, boot closes very nicely now, now just to find out where it is leaking from

What did you do to make it close?

Sorry maybe I wasnt too clear with my last post, I purchased the Phoenix boot seal as you suggested and no surprises that it fitted wonderfully
