Problem With Mpi Over Revving And Popping After Lambda Replacement

I’m looking for some help with a new problem I’m having with my MPI.
After falling its MOT on emissions I replaced the Lambda sensor with a nice new Bosch one. To do this I removed the inlet manifold. At the same time I took off the engine top steady to renew its worn bushes.
Once the new lambda was in I replace everything back and started the engine.
To my horror I’m now idles at at least 2000rpm, sometimes more, and if I touch the throttle the revs increase dramatically a stay there until I turn the ignition off. At the same time there is lots of popping coming from the exhaust.
What could I have done that would result in this. AGHHHHH
My thoughts so far are:
- Lambda not seated correctly (although I’m sure I put it in well)
- engine block no longer earthed properly (I had to remove/replace this with the engine steady)
- inlet manifold not replaced properly
But I’m not sure really
Any help for this issue should be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem after a total rebuild mpi,, look at inlet manifold to head (as sonscar suggests) mine had a slight gap although locating rings fitted, must have been slightly off, after re positioning and tightening.... perfect! took me ages before realising.

I had exactly the same on my SPi. Dislodged locating ring, small air leak, fast running and a cat so hot it scorched paint

I will reseat the inlet manifold and let you know the results.
Hopeful and thankful that is all it is.
