Can anyone advise me how to reset an odometer?

I have a replacement speedo for Duffy, but the Odometer has been reset to zero.

The original speedo has 90000 miles on it. I had thought I could just swap the odometers but it is not as easy as I thought it would be!

Is there an easy way to adjust the mileage to match the original speedo?  I do not wish to dismantle the odometer drum.

Nope. Just make a note of what the mileage was when the new one goes in.

a couple of pieces of card above and below the carrier shaft between the the 10K wheel and the white plastic plate may move the wheel across enough to disengage it from the increment wheel that drives it from the preceding wheel (..the yellow bits between each wheel in the picture below)

whether you can get it to line up properly after moving it is another question.  I would suggest trying it out on the old speedo first.

Battery drill, a spare speedo cable and a couple of days work.

if you use a mains powered drill you wouldn't have to keep charging batteries

or maybe a lathe / milling machine if they go to higher speeds and can be mounted securely and safely

And if you use the drill method, at 100mph you can leave it running 24/7 for 37.5 days!

Well that has buggered it!

I couldn’t see any way of releasing the ratchet mechanism to adjust the mileage.

The “new” speedo has had the odometer reset to zero by someone prior to me buying the speedo.

I started to run the mileage up using a drill on the end of the shaft, all seemed OK, but it was a bit stiff when other digits were changing, I got it to 19000 mile, when the 10ths digit stopped turning, something had broken/worn which prevents the odometer increasing the numbers!

There is a slight difference between the 2 odometer drums, but I have managed to swap the upper part of my original speedo onto the base of the “new” speedo. The old one was a bit stiff in operation so maybe this was why the needle was fluctuating.

I now need to re assemble the unit then test it in the car and see how it works, fingers crossed.
