After the battle of the sheared engine mount bolt, we finally got our new engine started!

First problem was an overflowing carb bowl but a new valve and gasket sorted that.

Unfortunately, we have a coolant leak where it's not obvious where it's coming from. I suspected the water pump gasket but when looking for signs of this I noticed that the bypass hose doesn't have any jubilee clips on it.  Is this normal?  I seem to remember from my original 71 clubman that it had clips (but that was 40 years ago so I may be wrong).

My other suspicion is a leaky head gasket, which I'm really hoping it isn't because I don't really want to have to pop the head off just for this.

Thanks in advance.

The proper clips fit the hose better https://www.minispar...sic/3H2963.aspx

You could replace the screws, or find similar clamps, with socket heads to make tightening/undoing easier. But, as you're unlikely to replace the hose without removing the the head or pump too it's not such an issue
