Does anyone know what the black rubber thing is that is on the float on the sending unit? I was in the process of replacing my sending unit and noticed this round rubber seal thing dangling on the arm. Could not figure where it belonged. Looked at pictures of new sending units and it looks like this thing slides on the float to the middle of it. Would like to know what it's job is or what purpose it is suppose to have. Just curious. Thanks guys.   Gary :)      My Mini is a 1990 998cc

I think it’s to stop the float rattling against the sides of the tank.
