Just aquired a 1275 complete A+ engine which comes up as 'Police Specifications'.
Would anyone know how that may differ from other ones ?
From an Allegro.

Thanks

He He. Nothing that can't be done though. All i know so far is the primary gear bushes aren't worn. I hoped it may be souped up so the fuzz could chase the criminals ! But a high performance Allegro ?  :D

I dunno it might be well preserved, if they wanted to nick someone it was probably quicker to get out and run after them anyway

I jest of course,  but I don't recall seeing any of them in the sweeney

not but seriously despite a bit of googling I can't find anything about different engine specs relating to police issue models, just out of curiosity I'd be interested to read whatever people dig up, my guess would be it was more about interior trim and the electricals fitted (siren / radio being the most obvious)  probably not ever intended as fast pursuit vehicles

A friend had a Liverpool cop car, was nothing more than a normal 1275 Cooper S.  That car was sold to the owner of Mini Mania and is on display in their company's lobby in California.

It's the engine which comes up as 'Police' on Guessworks' de-coder, not the car. 12H 694 AA

Possibly well knackered.

A friend used to be a police mechanic, and the cars that he worked on were maintained to a very high standard.

I still have some of the discarded,1/2 used brake shoes and I used to get a good 5,000 miles out of the cast off tyres.

When I eventually strip it, if there's anything of interest I'll post it on here

I don't want to be too picky, but there is something not quite correct about your 1973-80, 1275 Allegro bore and stroke figures.

I remember years ago trying to decode a Cooper S engine number and coming across a code for Police Cooper S spec.

Comes with a strange noise. Maybe the crank.. not a squeek, not a tap but more a bee baww...
