Restoration of a customers very special mpi, A 98 mpi cooper sport le with a john cooper 90bhp conversion and 5 speed box from factory

 

unfortunately age, mileage and the usual tinworm have done their worst

 

as it looked

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

usual stripdown and assessment commenced

Customer has opted for full panel replacement in most cases with localised repairs if possible / worth doing

 

so first up boot floor came out

 

 

 

 

New panel being prepped

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

forgot to get photos of it going in but can be seen in place here in a later photo

 

 

Next up is the main floor, full panel used including pre fitted sills, jacking points, heelboard etc

 

 

 

 

 

 

new panel received a good coat of epoxy primer in the box sections and hard to paint when fitted places

Rear arches and associated closing panels etc next

doorsteps and door post repairs, passenger side required a new hinge panel and localised repairs to inner / closing panel, drivers side has had a complete doorpost and closing panel

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Passenger side inner wing has also been replaced, drivers is wip

Rear quarters replaced

 

passenger side pre welding

 

 

 

Rear panel and valance replacement, full height rear panel used due to normal rust on lower lip but also a nasty are of rot above rear window

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Couple of smaller repairs, bulkhead uprights both had rust behind them, thankfully bulkhead is solid and just needed to be cleaned up, treated and painted before fitment of new uprights

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thats more or less up to date, im realising im not taking enough photos so will try and make future updates more comprehensive, I tend to get stuck in and forget to get pics as I go along, I charge per hour so try and work as fast as possible!
