Currently rebuilding an mpi. got to the doors and they are mostly done

I have read many threads about leaking doors and i am trying to avoid this if i can.

Having read these I am now going to 'helicopter' tape over all the holes and probably put some sort of 'insert' in the larger cut outs.

My question is about the membrane. Is there an alternative to the minispares one.? Can I use any plastic membrane?

In my head i am thinking, how can a piece of plastic cost so much.?

Also the original one fitted did not have any screw hole cut outs like the ones from shops,, the plastic inserts were pushed through the plastic membrane so less risk of leakage.

I always just seak up the holes in the doors with duck tape from Screwfix or similar, where it passes over the door opening rod I put a piece on backwards and then tape over it so it doesn't stick.  If you do this you won't need the plastic trim.

Make sure you put a sound deadening pad on the inside of the skin as it will sound like an old van when you close it other wise!

Yeah got that covered, some generic dynamat, lots of dynax s50 in the cavity.

found the 'dum dum'  butyl sealant tape on psasolutions.uk.com.    this web site is great for tapes and glues.  (i do not have any affiliation with them)
