Hi All mini fans
i have found this web site and some may be able to help with a real pain in the back side of a problem i have

The Relay box as used on the SPI mini for the ignition / fuel pump / starter motor
rover part number YWB1022

for the past two months i have broken down 4 time and the AA know me well now uuurrr
your going along  and the engine just loses power dies and wont start then the next day after being brought home on tow truck it starts
all fine then it happens again loss of power then dies but not every trip ,,,some time you even get home ?

i put a fuel pressure gauge in the line and when it dies their is no fuel pressure in the system
fuel pump changed / filters / hoses / pressure regulator / some of the pump wiring to the fuse  pump and removed the pump accident immobilizer switch from the circuit

and it still happens and i am now scared to use the car in case i brakes down

i have read this relay box YWB1022 can be a real pain and as a retied electronics engineer i am looking at making a replacement module
from scratch or repairing a faulty one

question - has any one got a faulty YWB1022 i can buy from them for further investigation to see what going on with these boxes
or better still a circuit diagram for the circuit of the relay box    ?

Help Please

The most common problem in the box is dry solder joints overheating. The box is easy enough to force open and resolder.

Are you sure this is not what you need:

https://www.somerfor...96-not-jap-spec

Expensive, but might save some trouble.

I am afraid I do not know the difference. This is listed:

https://www.somerfor...ir-con-jap-spec

I know the last models of the JDM SPi used the MPi style block with distributorless ignition.

I am not sure what the difference is between the non-available model listed and the standard MPi multi-function unit.

You might touch base with David at:

https://classicminis...d-transmission/

He may have an answer...

Carry a test lamp and some flying leads. As an electronic engineer it should be simple to leap out when it stops and diagnose the fault when it is live(dead?).Some judicious jury rigging should temporarily restore running. This is the thoughts of a owner driver of several examples of modified 50 year old TAT.Steve..

I am assuming you saw this:

https://www.theminif...ty/#entry514013

I think first you need to positively identify the MFU your car uses or has now. Does you car have the interior fuse block?

There was a wiring diagram supplement for the SPi with aircon and MPi block, I thought it was posted in the thread with wiring diagrams, but I cannot seem to locate it right now.

A update on the relay box and a confession
first i dont have a mini i have a MG Rv8 1995 jap imported  with rover v8 less that 2000 was made

MG / rover when this car was made used a number of parts from the parts bin and from the mini
the relay box YWB1022 was used for the relay for the ignition  / fuel pump / stater and they fitted it way up behind the dashboard
may be a dash out job uuurrr not again

I am still looking for a circuit diagram for this box if any one has one i think i could  make much more reliable and much  better than this relay box

i did resolder the joints on the box when i had it out some years a go  but the fact i have  broke down 4 time in 6  weeks i just brought a new one off e bay for £95

the guy had around 10 and sold 7 in just over a week so i thought i better get in
one thing he did say is it is a pattern part not original manufacture but had BCS ?   any one with a date code of 04/2022

i will fit it to the Mg over the winter and lets hope it solves my problem loss of fuel pressure problem with is electrical and not mechanical
i will up date you all next summer when the car back on the road
thanks for the help
